Mount Tabor is now a section of Parsippany, NJ, but that did not occur until 1928.  At the time is was founded, the land was in Hanover Township.  Its roots go back to 1869 when the Newark Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church was given the right to operate a camp ground.  They found a wooded spread of land upon a lovely hill and purchased it from a local farmer.  They named it Mount Tabor after the Biblical place of Christ's Transfiguration.

Meeting were held there every year that lasted for 10 days.  People slept in tents but after a time they begin building small cottages.  As time passed, people stayed in the cottages all year round and the community grew.  By 1960 (nearly 100 years after it was founded) Mt. Tabor was a very active community and a playground, baskeball court and skating rink was added to the golf course for the enjoyment of all the inhabitants. The homes of Mt. Tablor are nestled close toget6her and sit on the hill looking like a storybook village.  They are all winterized and restored but a walk through the town is like taking a walk back in time when gingerbread decorations and Victorian peaks were all the rage in building.  You can feel the closeness and caring in this unique community.  Looking for a small home with quaint old fashinoned features and lots of charactor-check out Mt. Tabor in Parsippany, NJ.
